Sunflower meal is a feedstuff obtained by grinding the product that remains after the oil is extracted from sunflower seeds.
This specialty feed is of great importance in the livestock sector and is often used as part of compound feeds. Sunflower meal is an ideal feed not only for dairy and meat producers, but also for chicken breeders. It is also known that feeding this feed to chickens can increase egg production.
Sunflower meal is divided into two main categories. This distinction is based on the shell content of the meal. Unshelled sunflower meal has high protein (40% and above) and low cellulose, while shelled sunflower meal has lower protein (up to 15%) and higher cellulose content. Both types play an important role as a source of protein, cellulose and energy and are a valuable food source for dairy and meat farmers.
